An elderly resident who was pulled from an apartment fire was given CPR. The man did not have any vital signs after the fire broke out at a Cabbagetown high-rise.
Scorching ordeal
The fire crews were called to the 14-story building on Bleecker Street, near Carlton Street at around 4:30 PM.
One person was pulled from a unit on the fourth floor without vital signs. The first responders performed CPR. According to the Toronto Paramedic Services, the man was rushed to a healthcare facility with life-threatening injuries.
The fire was quickly extinguished. The firefighters did not quickly reveal the cause of the fire but stated that a mattress was involved.
A broken window at the fourth-floor unit could be seen from ground-level following the fire with water dripping down below.
A witness who had to flee informed that the smoke quickly spread throughout the building. No other injuries have been reported. The Toronto Fire Investigations Unit, Toronto police and the Ontario Office of the Fire Marshall will be investigating.
