A man died after a cardiac episode due to the lack of an AED. The employees have been pressing the office to get the device for years. The National Film Board is going to purchase 4 defibrillators for its Montreal headquarters after the death of an employee earlier this week.
Importance of AEDs in the workplace
A man assigned in film colorization experienced a cardiac episode. He collapsed close to the coffee machine. When a colleague called 911, the dispatcher asked if an AED was available. Sadly, the device was not available at all.
It has been 4 years since the employees have been requesting an AED. Sadly, the request of the union for the placement of the device has been denied.
After the incident that claimed a life, the NFB performed research regarding the device. It was discovered that they missed out on the importance of the device in any workplace.
NFB will buy AEDs in the coming weeks. One device will be present on every floor once NFB transfers to its new building in the downtown area.
