Montreal woman with health condition turned away from the store for not wearing a mask

A Montreal woman with a serious health condition was refused entry to her local grocery store for not wearing a face mask despite having a doctor’s note with her.

Anne Schlenker shared that she was turned away not once, but two days in a row from an IGA located in the city’s downtown area.

For her entire life, the 61-year old has been living with a serious neurological condition that can cause her chronic and excruciating pain. The level of pain can be so unbearable that the condition – trigeminal neuralgia – has been dubbed the suicide disease.

The Quebec government has ordered that anyone in an indoor public place must wear a mask but has exempted people with medical conditions from the new policy.

Schlenker shared that she is not against wearing a face mask but in her case, it is not possible.
