Man died at Trampoline Park

A man named Jason Greenwood, about 46 years old died after performing a front flip into a foam pit. The incident happened at an Extreme Air Park.

Greenwood together with his two children came to visit the park. Before the incident, he had asked his family to take a video of his summersault. Greenwood did not resurface after the jump.

Timely action

According to a report, witnesses found Greenwood landed on his headfirst after bouncing off a trampoline into the foam pit. Greenwood had not resurfaced. His family and some bystanders became concerned and began digging through the pit looking for him.

The staff of the Air Park found Greenwood unresponsive and upside down in the pit. A witness immediately called emergency numbers and received conflicting instructions. One responder instructed the people that Greenwood should not be moved and another responder instructed the opposite. Some bystanders tried to provide first aid to the victim.

Firefighters and paramedics arrived in the area and removed Greenwood from the pit after 21 minutes. They immediately provided first aid and checked on the victim. He was immediately brought to the hospital.  He had an injury to his cervical spine that resulted in damaging his spinal cord. He stopped breathing.

In the report, they also found out that Greenwood had a moderate level of alcohol in his system, but it was not the cause of his death. A timelier medical aid response and with proper respiratory support could have probably prevented the death of Greenwood. It was found out that during that day, three of the staff members of the park were not properly trained in first aid or CPR. They were not given instructions on how to manage an emergency or call the emergency numbers.

Trampoline parks have existed for so many years but have not been properly regulated in Canada. The regulator of amusement devices in the province will start regulating the park after two separate incidents that involve injuring four-year-old children.

The wife of Greenwood and his three young stepchildren filed a complaint against Extreme Air Park Inc.

Extreme Park responded that they are denying any negligence and failure of duty to care. And according to the management of the park, Greenwood signed a waiver of being aware of the dangers of the park before performing any activities in the area.
