Man charged in connection with fatal vehicular collisions

A 19-year-old man has been arrested with impaired driving offenses after a crash that happened in Richmond Hill, Ontario on a Sunday night. One man is dead and five other people were injured in the incident.

Prompt intervention

The police identified the man who died in the incident was a 44-year-old living in Richmond. A 40-year-old woman and a boy about 12 years old also a living in Richmond were found injured. Some witnesses and bystanders in the area who saw the incident immediately provided initial first aid on the victims.

The police received a call at about 9:30 in the evening in Yonge Street of Jefferson Sideroad. It involved a collision between four vehicles. It caused a chain reaction with a white Mercedes, colliding with a grey Hyundai and a red Toyota Sienna van and a white Mazda.

The man driving the white Mazda was declared dead on the spot. The two other passengers a woman and a boy inside the car suffered only injuries. The police cannot determine whether the three are related to each other or not. They were provided with first aid by some bystanders who saw the incident.

The people inside the grey Hyundai and the white Mercedes only suffered minor injuries. The passengers of the red Toyota Sienna van did not suffer any injuries. The police said the accused in the collisions was driving a white Mercedes. He is accused of impaired driving. The man is drunk or affected by legal or illegal drugs.

After the crash, car parts and debris were scattered over a large area. A car engine was thrown about 100 meters away from the crash area. According to the York Regional Police Chief, Eric Jolliffee, he completely disapproved of impaired driving and can be punished by imprisonment. This is a tragic loss for the families that were involved in the collisions. The police are doing their work in the fight and preventions against impaired driving.

Yonge Street was temporarily closed in all directions from 19th Avenue and Jefferson Side Road, to allow police officers to investigate the incident was again reopened the next day. The people who survived the incident were very grateful for the bystanders and the emergency crews who immediately provided them with first aid and brought to the hospital to be treated further.
