A 23-month old girl was stated missing by the owner of Melissa’s Bright Beginnings daycare. The caller informed the police after 10 minutes since the little girl was last seen.
Careful monitoring
Upon the arrival of the officers, they searched the daycare and adjacent properties. An officer discovered the toddler in the swimming pool of the house next door. He jumped into the water and retrieved the girl, yelling for help. The emergency crews arrived and delivered CPR. The girl was transported to a healthcare facility where she was declared dead.
A neighbor, Mitsuko Clysdale hears loud voices from the house across the street. She saw the panicked parents amidst the commotion. It was a horrible way to lose a child, especially while under supervision.
Another neighbor, Ian Johnston who lives on the other side of the house with the swimming pool only knew about the incident when he viewed out his window. He saw an RCMP officer frantically attempting to save the life of the child in the backyard.
During a surprise visit in January, Fraser Health discovered several violations at the daycare including too many young children. Out of the 8 children at the time of the inspection, 5 were under 3 years old which was 2 more than what was allowed under the license of the daycare.
