A baby was revived with CPR by a constable. Halton Regional Police Const. Rick Buys was recognized as a hero by an Oakville family after reviving a newborn.
The mother of the newborn was grocery shopping at the Real Canadian Superstore with her 2 children – 2-year old daughter and 6-week old Evan. While in the parking lot, Evan started to foam at the mouth and turned into a shade of blue. His heart ceased to beat.
Absence of a pulse
Buys was at a traffic stop in the area when he heard a 911 call on the radio. He quickly left to attend to the scene. As he pulled into the parking lot of the store, he was greeted by a crying mother holding her child.
Buys placed Evan on the back seat in his police cruiser and noticed that the child was not breathing and had no pulse. He quickly started CPR.
Upon the arrival of the ambulance, Evan started to get his color back. He was later coughing and started to cry. The child was transported to a healthcare facility in Oakville and later transferred to The Hospital for Sick Children where had to undergo several tests.
