Calgary economists state that the province must fight COVID-19 to protect the economy but current measures are not enough.
A lockdown might be necessary to drive infections down and restore confidence in consumers to support local businesses.
Allowing things open and letting the virus rise can be bad for the economy. It has the negative effect of more deaths, infections, and long-term morbidities associated with COVID-19.
Additional restrictions were placed on high-risk areas, like Calgary and Edmonton which will see certain indoor activities – including group fitness, non-professional group sports, and some performances – suspended until November 27.
The province appears to be heading in a direction where hundreds of thousands will be forced to self-isolate, forcing teachers away from classrooms, healthcare workers out of hospitals, and hospitality workers away from already struggling restaurants.
