Abbotsford teen dies in skiing accident

A 15-year old Abbotsford girl, Catherine Schoeman died during a church youth outing. The incident was confirmed by a park manager and later in the day by Princeton RCMP Sgt. Barry Kennedy.

According to Kennedy, Catherine Schoeman was skiing at the park with a 73-member church group. They had their first run of the day before 9:30 AM. The witnesses reported that Catherine was going slow initially and veered off the slope where the teen ran into several trees.

The local ski patrol provided first aid measures until the arrival of the paramedics, but Schoeman was declared dead on the scene after 11 AM.

Catherine’s father, Jack Schoeman is the pastor of Emmanuel Free Reformed Church in Abbotsford.
