A 52-year old Nanaimo man was found dead after a cornice collapsed beneath his snow.
Based on a news release, the RCMP stated that the Whistler Search and Rescue were sent to Mt.Callaghan shortly around 3:15 PM after reports of a snowmobiler who had fallen in the site.
Outdoor dangers
The search crews discovered that the man stopped his snowmobile on a snow cornice that subsequently collapsed. He was found partly buried 250 feet below. Even though other snowmobilers in the area dug him out and promptly delivered CPR, the man was pronounced dead at the scene.
According to Carly Trobridge, Nanaimo Search and Rescue president, the members were saddened to learn of Karl Baker’s death who was a dedicated member of NSAR for more than 15 years.
He was an avid outdoors man who help safety and avalanche education in high regard and as vital pieces of safe travel in the backcountry. He is deeply missed by all.
