A man died despite the delivery of CPR after an all-terrain vehicle crash in the northwest of Calgary. The emergency crews were called to a rural area in the northwest of Sundre near Birch Lake for reports of a rollover.
Rural crash
Based on an early investigation, it indicates that two people were in a Razor 800 side-by-side when it crested a hill and lost control descending on the other side.
The paramedics performed CPR on the driver for up to 45 minutes before the 37-year old man from Blackfalds was declared dead at the scene. The passenger, a 31-year old Red Deer man was airlifted by helicopter to a Calgary hospital in stable condition.
The police believe that both men were wearing helmets and were buckled in by a four-point harness at the time the crash occurred. The incident remains under investigation including whether drugs or alcohol played a role.
Timely intervention
Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) is an essential life-saving technique that can save lives. If it is promptly delivered, it significantly improves the chances of survival during emergencies.
