Two lifeguards save a boy in cardiac arrest

Two lifeguards were recognized for saving the life of a boy over the weekend. The lifeguards credited a vital piece of equipment that they utilized during the rescue.

Rapid action to save a life

The two staff members quickly rushed into action at a UBC pool when they saw Colton Boechler, 11-years old under serious trouble in the water.

As one lifeguard reached the boy and dragged him out of the water, the other ran to obtain an automated external defibrillator (AED). The availability and prompt use of an AED can help save a life, especially during cardiac emergencies. You can be prepared to help in such cases by joining a training class on first aid, CPR, and AED. You never know when similar emergencies can arise.
