Snowmobilers were given CPR after an avalanche. Backcountry enthusiasts are warned to be careful the day after 2 deadly avalanches occurred in B.C.
Avalanche incident
The first slide occurred on Monday evening near Blue River, around 200 kilometers north of Kamloops where an experienced group of seven people were out snowmobiling.
According to Alan Hobler of Kamloops Search and Rescue, there was an avalanche that occurred involving two of the members. The three remained on scene and continued to look for them and two went out for help.
The group was carrying rescue equipment and managed to locate and dig out both victims. Sadly, attempts on resuscitation with CPR were unsuccessful and the survivors had to leave the slide area due to dark and unsafe conditions. The names of the victims were not yet released but the RCMP confirmed that both are from Alberta.
Another avalanche left a snowmobiler partly buried near Castlegar in the West Kootenay region. His identity was not yet released but Mounties stated that he is a 45-year old man and his next of kin has been notified.
