Simcoe Muskoka records new COVID-19 cases

Although safety measures are in place to curb down the spread of COVID-19, cases continue to rise. In the latest update by the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit (SMDHU), it revealed the latest statistics of 78 COVID-19 cases.

There are 1,164 active cases along with 28 hospitalizations. SMDHU shared that almost half of the new cases that were reported in December were linked to an identified cause.

COVID-19 outbreaks have been reported in 13 long-term care and retirement homes. It also includes a recent outbreak of COVID-19 in Barrie, at Roberta Place.

The province-wide lockdown that was declared by Premier Doug Ford that was scheduled to conclude on January 23 might be extended. The reason was no other than the continuing increase in the number of new cases in Ontario.
