A mother who was given CPR after a rescue attempt in Lake Ontario died. The mother jumped into Lake Ontario over the weekend as an attempt to save her 6-year old son who was carried away from the shore while on a floating device.
Watery ordeal
The 33-year old woman along with 3 others entered the body of water at Beachfront Park in Pickering, Ontario just east of Toronto to assist the young boy in distress.
The 6-year old son was on an inflatable device when the wind caught it and took him away from shore. Before the arrival of the police on the scene, a male bystander was able to swim back safely with the child. Other bystanders helped bring the mother, who was unable to swim back alone to shore.
Upon arrival at the scene, the police found a woman who was unresponsive and bystanders were performing CPR on her. The officers took over with the life-saving efforts before the responding paramedics arrived at the scene.
The woman was identified and taken to a local hospital but was later declared dead. The residents in the area at the time stated that witnessing the incident unfold was “devastating” and “heartbreaking”.
