Newfoundland and Labrador’s health minister performed CPR to save a life. John Haggie, a doctor, was digging on a plate of fish at the Gander Legion which was part of the Festival of Flight of the town when a man collapsed.
Timely CPR
Haggie refused to talk to the reporters about the incident but the incident was confirmed by an aide. According to the aide, the man was not responsive and has no pulse.
Haggie informed the CBC that he simply followed the routine life support training. His role was a coincidence. Through the aide, Haggie referred additional questions to the Heart and Stroke Foundation to talk about the importance of CPR training.
Haggie is a general and vascular surgeon originally from Manchester, England. He served as the president of the Canadian Medical Association and even elected to the provincial legislature in 2015.
