The topic of mandatory face masks will be up for discussion at Edmonton City Hall. A special emergency advisory committee meeting has been called. The councilors will discuss the city administration’s “mandatory face mask decision-making model” and associated fact-based indicators.
The meeting was called since many residents in Edmonton would like to see more mask usage. This includes a possible face mask mandate for the public and some private indoor spaces.
The city council needs to come back from summer recess to receive information on the COVID-19 pandemic situation, discuss what the evidence-based indicators for mandatory face masks would be as well as understand what this would like in a regional context with other neighboring municipalities in the Edmonton Metropolitan area.

The debate comes after the Calgary city council approved making face masks mandatory in indoor public spaces and public vehicles amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
