Doctor shares tips on the best masks during the pandemic

Since face masks are being recommended when physical distancing is not possible, there can be confusion on the types of masks that are the most effective.

Last week, the chief public officer of Canada stated that face masks are now recommended for those who cannot maintain a two-meter physical distance from others.

The quality of the mask makes a big difference as well as how well it fits on a person or how the person wears it. The point is to wear a good quality, thick mask. A cloth mask that is good in quality seals on both sides of the face. When wearing the mask, avoid touching it all the time.

When it comes to the droplets, a person who has a moist cough can propel a quarter of a teaspoon of fluid and it aerosolizes a lot of the virus particles into the air. Using a mask will help protect others.

Masks that are used during renovations especially those that are built with a valve can help you breathe out easier, but these masks can help spread germs since the droplets can go out quicker and farther.
