A 17-month old was unresponsive while in a taxi in St. John’s. It was an ordeal that parents do not want to experience. According to the father, his son is still recovering in a healthcare facility and eagerly thanks everyone who assisted in saving the life of his son.
Jason Roddan along with his wife and toddler Christopher were riding a Jiffy Cab to get groceries when the toddler ceases to breathe. According to Roddan, his son had no pulse and not breathing, so he pulled him out of the car seat and placed him in the passenger side and initiated CPR for up to 15 minutes before first responders arrived and took over.
Prompt medical care
According to CBC News last week, the child become unresponsive and the dispatcher for Jiffy Cabs relayed CPR instructions over the radio until an ambulance arrived on the scene.
The child was diagnosed with an underlying hereditary condition that causes his kidneys to fail when he was around 3 weeks old. The child is currently under dialysis to manage the kidney issue.
It was an unexpected ordeal and an intense experience. Both parents were scared but they had to take the necessary precautions to ensure to keep him alive at that point. At that point, Roddan was not aware of what was going around him or the conversation over the cab radio.
Roddan grateful thanks that drivers, the dispatcher Jay, paramedics who performed resuscitation before reaching the Janeway and its amazing staff.
