CPR performed on a half-marathoner who collapsed

The man was running toward the finish line at Jasper Avenue and 103 Street when he collapsed. A doctor who was driving by the Edmonton Marathon rushed to help the man who collapsed and ceased to breathe just blocks away from the finish line.

The man was resuscitated by Dr. Tamara Kuzma. She rushed from her vehicle to help a police officer and administer CPR.

Timely action to save a life

According to the spokesperson at Alberta Health Services and race organizers, they do not have any information on the status of the man.

According to a witness, Courtney Repchinsky who was watching the race from the corner, the man was running toward the finish line of the half-marathon when he collapsed on the road face first.

Kuzma performed CPR for up to 30 seconds when the man started to breathe again. Upon the arrival of the emergency crews, they took over the scene. The man was placed on a stretcher and transported to a healthcare facility.
