Halton Regional Police Const. Rick Buys is a hero for reviving a newborn. The mother of the newborn was grocery shopping at the Real Canadian Superstore with her 2 children – 2-year old daughter and 6-week old Evan.
Crisis
In the parking lot, Evan started to foam at the mount and turned blue. His heart ceases to beat.
Buys was conducting a traffic stop in the area when he heard the emergency call in the radio. He quickly left to attend the scene. While he pulled into the parking area of the store, he was greeted by the mother holding her baby.
Buys placed Evan on the back seat in his cruiser and noticed that the child was not breathing and no pulse. It was then that he initiated CPR.
Upon the arrival, the color started to return in Evan. In no time, he was coughing and started to cry. The child was transported to a healthcare facility in Oakville and later to The Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto where several tests were performed.
