CPR was performed on a baby after going into cardiac arrest. According to the police, a two-week-old baby died after going into cardiac arrest while his parents drove along a major highway.
Based on the statement by the police, the family was traveling from Vernon to Vancouver along the Coquihalla Highway when the father realized that the baby was not breathing. The parents pulled over north of Merritt, started CPR and called 911.
The police sealed off the highway to allow an air ambulance to land, but the infant died while he was being airlifted to a hospital.
The family was going to the B.C. Children’s Hospital for an unrelated medical appointment and the death of the baby was “totally unexpected.” The cause of death is unclear, but an autopsy has been scheduled.
