A 60-year old Ladysmith man is recovering from a gunshot wound. He was hit in the leg by an errant bullet while playing golf.
According to Nanaimo RCMP, the man just finished his round at Winchelsea View Golf Course in Lantzville when he felt a sudden sharp pain in his lower calf. According to the police, a group of golfers came to his assistance and performed basic first aid.
Stray bullet
The man drove himself to a healthcare facility in Ladysmith where an X-ray confirmed that a bullet lodged in his calf.
The RCMP believed that someone might have been doing target practice in the area. According to the police, the nearby residents heard gunshots sporadically throughout the day.
According to Const. Gary O’Brien of the Nanaimo RCMP, there is no indication that the man was targeted and his injury might have resulted from an individual or others who were target practicing in the adjacent rural area.
It is unlawful to discharge a firearm within 100 meters of any building and the basic rule of firearm safety is to know the background and beyond. The man is expected to fully recover from his injury.
The necessity of first aid training
During emergencies, you should be knowledgeable on basic first aid skills. You must enroll in first aid and CPR course to be prepared. You never know when emergencies occur and where.
