The IHIT believes that the victim was involved in the Lower Mainland gang conflict. The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team identified the victim in the shooting in Surrey as 30-year old Sumeet Randhawa.
According to IHIT media relations officer Detective Lara Jansen, Randhawa, a Surrey resident died at the scene of the shooting. He was known to the police and the shooting is believed to be targeted and involved with the Lower Mainland gang conflict.
Gang-related shooting
The IHIT is working with the Surrey RCMP Serious Crimes Unit, Lower Mainland Integrated Forensic Identification Service and the BC Coroners Service. At the early phase of the investigation, there are no potential suspects.
According to Surrey RCMP Corporal Elenore Stark, the shooting occurred before 2 PM in the 6700-block of 130th Street. 130th Street would stay closed for a certain span of time between 64th and 68th avenues.
There is still no information at this time whether Randhawa lived where the shooting occurred.
Based on a news release from Surrey RCMP, police were called to the area after reports of a shooting. Upon the arrival of the police, an adult victim sustained gunshot wounds. Despite emergency care to revive the individual, they succumbed to their injuries.
The necessity of first aid training
