Disposable face masks have been the essential tools in preventing the spread of disease. Generally, these are 95% filter disposable face masks that are lightweight and comfortable with elastic ear loops with a metal nose piece on top for a custom fit that is individually wrapped.
What is a face mask used for?
A disposable face mask works by limiting the spread of microorganisms. When a person coughs, talks or sneezes, miniature droplets are released into the air that can infect others. If a person is sick, wearing a face mask can lessen the number of germs that the wearer releases and can protect others from becoming sick. Additionally, a face mask also protects the nose and mouth of the wearer from sprays or splashes of bodily fluids.
How to put on and remove a face mask
A disposable face mask should only be used once and discarded in the trash properly. You must also replace masks once they become moist.
Let us take a look at the general guidelines on putting on and removing a disposable face mask.
How to put on a face mask
- Wash your hands with soap and water or use a hand sanitizer before handling the mask.
- Take out the mask from the wrapper and check that there are no evident tears or holes in either side of the mask.
- Check which side of the mask is the top. The side of the mask that has a stiff bendable piece is the top and meant to mold to the form of your nose.
- Check which side of the mask is the front. The colored side of the mask is the front, while the white side comes in contact with your face.
- Hold the ear loops of the mask. Position a loop around each ear.
- Pinch the stiff piece to the form of your nose.
- Pull out the base of the mask so that it properly covers your mouth and chin.
