A Toronto-based anti-mask activist was arrested at the Moncton airport as he arrived to host an anti-mask event that was scheduled for Saturday.
It was confirmed by New Brunswick RCMP that a 37-year old man from King City, Ont., was arrested after they responded to reports of a disturbance at Greater Moncton Romeo LeBlanc International Airport.
They would not confirm the identity of the man. However, the details match up with a video posted online by Chris Saccoccia, a Toronto-based anti-mask activist. In the video on Facebook, it shows him in a verbal exchange with a WestJet flight attendant. An RCMP officer is shown arriving inside the aircraft and telling him that he is under arrest for causing a disturbance. He is then escorted off the plane.
Dozens attended the event, which urged residents to not follow the mandatory mask order that was put in place in New Brunswick. The masking order was implemented which requires the use of face masks in most indoor public places as a response to the rising number of coronavirus cases in the province. The violation of federal public health guidelines carries a $1,000 fine.
