The measures to prevent the spread of COVID-19 in one clinic in Vancouver were considered extraordinary. When the Copeman Medical Centre in downtown Vancouver got a new directive from the provincial health officer on how to prevent the spread of COVID-19, it has taken extra steps.
If a caller has significant symptoms and relevant travel history, they will be tested for COVID-19 in the parking lot of the clinic. A nurse would wear a floor-length gown, a splash mask, and rubber gloves and take two throat swabs via the window of the person’s car. The patient will be asked to self-isolate until the results come back.
If a person enters the clinic with flu-like symptoms, they will be asked to put on a mask and sit at least two meters away from others in a waiting room that is free of magazines or toys. The person will be taken to a designated room where the nurse will check if they should be tested for COVID-19.
