Homemade masks may prevent the spread of COVID-19 to others

Observing physical distancing, regular hand washing, and resisting the urge to touch your face are the proven methods.

The provincial health officer of B.C. stated that wearing homemade or non-medical masks might prevent people from spreading droplets that cause COVID-19 but using a mask has a little effect in protecting a person from the virus.

The World Health Organization and the U.S. Centers for Disease Control have been moving towards supporting further use of masks by people during the pandemic.

When masks are worn, it can help lessen the droplets being shed into the environment and if a person is infected and has mild symptoms or early on in the disease, it can prevent you from putting those droplets out.

When masks are worn, it can help lessen the droplets being shed into the environment and if a person is infected and has mild symptoms or early on in the disease, it can prevent you from putting those droplets out. Nevertheless, homemade, or non-medical masks are not proven to provide the user with any protection.

The supply of approved medical masks and respirators must be reserved for medical workers, COVID-19 patients, and others in the frontlines.

The province is holding its own fight against COVID-19 but there are several more critical weeks to go before the restrictions can be lifted. Any reductions in the restrictions should be done in a way that prevents the further spread of the virus.
