A 21-year old Abbotsford man was saved from drowning by 3 passers-by after his car went into a water-filled ditch.
Watery ordeal
According to Abbotsford Police Const. Ian MacDonald, the man was travelling in a 1992 Honda Civic when he turned east onto Clayburn Road heading to Highway 11.
The vehicle hydro-planed through some water on the road and headed into a hydro pole and ended up submerged in the ditch. The 51-year old driver of the vehicle behind him along with the assistance of another witness, dragged the unconscious man out of the vehicle and moved him to a dry patch on the side of the road.
A nurse who was passing by delivered first aid until the emergency personnel arrived on the site. The man was airlifted to a healthcare facility where he is in a severe condition with arm, head and internal injuries.
MacDonald added that the driver of the Honda had been submerged for around 2 minutes but the time he was pulled free. The man would have drowned if nobody witnessed the accident and rescued him.
