Two passersbys resuscitated a man struck by a truck in Pitt Meadows. Jeremy Scholing and Matt Burnett, both 23-years old heard an impact while driving home along the Lougheed Highway around 2:30 AM. They pulled over and ran to a prone man who was not breathing.
Bloody face
According to Burnett, Scholing attempted to perform CPR on the man after another passerby called for emergency assistance. They were given directions over the phone since either Burnett or Scholing had executed CPR before.
Burnett wanted to see the man breathing. He helped wipe the blood off his face and took the shirt off his back. The man started to cough and show indications of life after several minutes of delivering CPR. The paramedics arrived in a short while and transported the man to a healthcare facility.
Investigation
Based on a release by the Ridge Meadows RCMP, the witnesses saw the man step into the eastbound lane of the highway to hail a taxi where he was hit by a five-ton box truck.
The victim, a 22-year old man was brought to a healthcare facility in severe condition. The witnesses who provided initial first aid and CPR were also appreciated for their efforts.
