25-person limit on outdoor rinks in Ottawa

New rules are in place in the outdoor rinks in Ottawa to limit the spread of COVID-19. The outdoor skating rinks in Ottawa now have new protocols during the winter season. One of the rules limits a maximum of 25 individuals. Shinny or shooting pucks are not allowed on all outdoor rinks.

Based on the latest guidelines issued by the Medical officer of health under the Health Protection and Promotion Act, gatherings in large numbers are not allowed at popular recreational areas. The latest regulations set by the authorities in outdoor skating rinks and other recreational amenities will take effect on Friday.

Ottawa will also implement a reservation system for advanced bookings for 45-minute skating sessions at four outdoor refrigerated rinks.

There is also a maximum capacity of 25 individuals in all outdoor skating rinks as well as in sledding hills. The operators of these facilities must post capacity limit signs and 2-meter physical distancing signs. Additionally, there should be posts or signage to strictly observe the wearing of masks at all times in the facilities.

There is a team from Ottawa Bylaw and Regulatory Services who are responsible for monitoring all sledding hills and community rinks for any violations.
