B.C. boy dies after struck by truck while cycling

An 8-year old boy, Linden Baglo was hit and died in Nanaimo. The incident occurred while he was riding his bicycle.

Based on the report by Nanaimo RCMP, the incident occurred around 11:40 AM in 1000 block of Nelson Street. Firefighters, police and B.C. Ambulance responded to the scene while several Good Samaritans and first responders delivered emergency first aid.

The child was transported to Nanaimo Regional General Hospital where he was given emergency care by the medical staff but due to the injuries that he sustained, he was later declared dead.

The investigators gathered several statements and spoke with the truck driver who remained at the scene and cooperated. The officers were able to determine that the boy was wearing a helmet and was with a sibling when he rode out of the driveway and collided with the F-350 pickup truck. Speed, alcohol and drugs were not contributing factors. The vehicle was seized by the investigators and will undergo mechanical inspection.

Nanaimo RCMP Victim Services were also present at the scene and assisted the family and those involved.
