A woman who sustained severe injuries was quickly transported to a nearby hospital. A group of bystanders who pursued the driver involved in the hit-and-run accident and those who delivered first aid care were recognized by the Toronto Police for their efforts.
The driver of a dump truck struck a pedestrian near the intersection of Bloor Street West and South Kingsway before 8 AM. The driver was later arrested after he left his vehicle a few kilometers from the site where the accident occurred.
Based on the report by the investigators, a group of TTC employees and construction workers showed them the location of the suspect.
Searching for the driver
According to witnesses in the area, the pedestrian was dragged by the dump truck after the collision. The TTC crew who were working in the area stopped their work to quickly help the victim.
Some of the TTC workers delivered first aid care to the pedestrian who sustained severe injuries. Others hopped onto their vehicles to run after the truck as it quickly left the scene. They were able to follow the truck to an area near Park Lawn Road where they cornered the suspect. At that point, the suspect jumped out of the truck and tried to run away.
Start of the chase
The TTC workers were in pursuit of the dump truck driver, passing by a group of construction workers in a parking lot. They were informed of what happened and the construction workers also joined the chase.
The group pursued the driver into a neighboring ravine and got in touch with the police. The police officers shortly arrived and arrested the driver, who was already in the water at the base of the gully.
The citizens of Toronto were eager to take action when needed. With timely intervention and delivery of first aid and CPR, it is indispensable during emergencies.
