Man in cardiac arrest given CPR at airport

A 68-year old was saved with CPR at the Ottawa airport. The border agents, passengers, and American Airlines staff were among those who helped the man. The man went into cardiac arrest after getting off his flight at the Ottawa International Airport.

Timely actions to save a life

According to the paramedics, the witnesses quickly started CPR on the victim when he collapsed. The American Airlines staff, Canada Border Services agents, passengers, Ottawa police and airport staff teamed up to quickly utilize one of the defibrillators in the airport.

Upon the arrival of the paramedics, the man was already conscious and could not recall that he collapsed. His only complaint was that his ribs were sore from the CPR. The paramedics transferred the man to a healthcare facility in stable condition.

Rapid delivery of CPR and using an AED

According to paramedic spokesperson Marc-Antoine Deschamps in a news release, the event clearly shows what bystanders and law enforcement officers can do to save a life with CPR and a defibrillator. Without their intervention, the outcome would have been a different one.
