Boy who collapsed during a game saved with an AED

The bystanders revived a 15-year old who collapsed with an AED. The incident occurred while the boy was playing futsal at Sir Robert Borden High School. According to the paramedics, without the actions of the bystanders, the outcome would be a poor one.

Importance of AEDs

An automated external defibrillator (AED) that was stationed at the school was utilized. The boy was playing in a futsal tournament when he collapsed. Futsal is a version of indoor soccer played with a slightly smaller ball.

A cardiologist who was present started CPR while others obtained the defibrillator. They delivered a shock to the teen before the arrival of the paramedics. The paramedics continued the resuscitation attempts and delivered more shocks before his pulse returned.
