Provincewide mask mandate considered as a relief for some rural communities

Some rural officials are relieved by the new provincewide mask mandate by Alberta. It puts a stop to the contentious issue among Albertans outside of the province’s major centers.

Although some jurisdictions took matters into their own hands, many communities waited for the provincial government and chief medical officer of health to mandate masks.

The High River council chose to leave it up to the province to implement a mask mandate, believing it to be the provincial government’s responsibility. Before rejecting a proposed municipal bylaw, the councilors received plenty of feedback that showed the community was divided on the issue.
