Parks Canada announces new COVID-19 restrictions and Banff extends mask bylaw

New restrictions and closures in the Banff National Park were issued by Parks Canada over the weekend as the Town of Banff added more restrictions.

Over the summer, Parks Canada restricted vehicle access along the Bow Valley Parkway in an effort to increase opportunities for hiking and biking in the area, while preventing the over-crowding at the narrow pathways of Johnston Canyon.

The decision to close the parkway again, without granting access to the public with or without their vehicles was one made with provincial and local public safety measures in mind.

Banff’s council voted to extend the outdoor mask mandate.

Banff’s council voted to extend the outdoor mask mandate. The council voted down the first proposed bylaw, which would have seen bars and restaurants close to the public by 8 PM. They will stay open until 11 PM with liquor sales stopping at 10 PM.

The council voted to reduce restaurant occupancy to 50% of the fire code limit, though a motion to lower it further, to 25% was squashed.
