After the delivery of cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and a shock from an automated external defibrillator (AED), the man regained sinus rhythm. The Ottawa Paramedic Service was responsible for helping the man in his 50s.

On the rescue

According to the Ottawa paramedics spokesman Marc-Antoine Deschamps, the man had a pulse and was breathing on his own, but he was still unconscious at the arrival of the emergency team.

The paramedics performed an electrocardiogram on the individual which confirms that he had a heart attack and was rushed to a healthcare facility as he later regained consciousness.

According to Deschamps, it was a good news story especially with the rapid delivery of CPR and the availability of an AED. These are vital in surviving an out-of-hospital cardiac arrest and the reason why paramedics partner up with organizations.
