A 7-year old girl involved in a drowning incident received CPR. According to police in Nanaimo, B.C. stated that the child drowned at a popular local lake.
Drowning incident
According to RCMP Cpl. Ken Callaghan, a swimmer discovered the girl floating in the water for Westwood Lake, around five or six feet below the surface. The 40-year old from Camrose, Alberta pulled the child to the shore.
Callaghan believed that she was snorkeling because she might have had a snorkel in her mouth. Several lifeguards were on the scene at the lake and delivered CPR on the child. She was transported to Nanaimo Regional General Hospital but was later declared dead.
Callaghan stated that the girl was part of a group of children and her parents were not on scene at the time of the drowning. The police stated that she is from the small community of Cedar, around 14 kilometers northwest of Nanaimo.
