The gun violence in Metro Vancouver has taken a devastating toll. It can be painful for the families of innocent victims.
Unforeseen tragedy
Darlene Bennett and her family are preparing for Christmas but it would not be the same. It was a hard experience for the family. Her husband, Paul Bennett worked as a nurse. He was on the way to the retirement party of a colleague when he was shot.
His family was home at the time. The children heard a noise and ran outside. It was a shocking event where her 12-year old called for emergency assistance and Darlene started CPR. She tried everything but he was gone.
Alarming concern on safety
The death of Paul Bennett left ongoing safety concerns, even while on the school playground.
The Lower Mainland had other innocent victims due to senseless violence. The police are still investigating the shooting. Darlene urges anyone with information to go to the police.
Importance of first aid training
Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and using an automated external defibrillator (AED) can save a life. Prompt delivery of life-saving techniques improves the chances of survival during emergencies.
